Household Cavalry Drum Horse Salute

The drum horse takes the Royal Salute at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The Drum Horse breed is described as "A coloured Shire Horse". These horses are highly trained for their prestigious role in British pageantry and are used for parades and events to carry a drummer and 2 solid silver kettle drums. The weight of these can be more than 450lbs in total.

In 1831 King William IV presented both the 1st and 2nd Life Guards with a pair of silver kettledrums which are still in use today.

Apart from strength they need to be reliable and good natured and calm as they parade through the streets of one of the busiest cities in the world.
