Drumhorse of the Household Cavalry A4 print
Drumhorse of the Household Cavalry A4 print
This is an A4 print of my watercolour and colour pencil painting of a Drumhorse of the Household Cavalry.
The Drumhorses of the Household Cavalry are gentle giants and are used at ceremonial occasions in the United Kingdom. They have a calm and sensible temperament when surrounded by large crowds which is helpful for the rider who controls the horse with reins attached to his feet.
In the book "All The Queen's Horses", the Drum Horse breed is described as "A coloured Shire Horse". These horses are highly trained for their prestigious role in British pageantry and are used for parades and events to carry a drummer and 2 solid silver kettle drums. The weight of these can be more than 450lbs in total!
Clydesdales and Shire horses are used in the main and are usually geldings however a mare ‘Juno’ lead the Household Cavalry band for the coronation of King Charles lll.
